What the pudding cake!?

hahahaha i'm already laughing at myself. I used to love baking and then I stopped for a while and now it seems that I don't know what i'm doing.

This week I decided to make my dad a birthday cake.....I was originally going to make him a cake out of the box but then he requested a pudding cake. I response was and I quote
"I have no idea what that is but i'll Pinterest it"
I did Pinterest it...and there are so many different versions and flavors of a pudding cake so I just chose one. My dad wanted lemon so I attempted a lemon pudding cake....

So I gathered up mostly what I would need (haha you can see my cake box mix in the background) and began on this uphill battle to make my dad this lemon pudding cake.

I needed to zest a lemon....I used my cheese grater....haha

One of the steps for the lemon sauce was to add just the yoke of 3 eggs so I have this handy dandy egg yoke separater thing that I've only ever used once before this and I've had it for almost three years. It was fantastic and I was wearing an apron so I felt like a master chef.
Then I had to whisk it...ugh
and boil it or something
While I was attempting this lemon pudding cake I was of course watching Britain's next Great Baker. That show is the best, and the music is also so chipper I almost feel like i'm watching a kids cartoon show on PBS.

BOOM. Lemon sauce done and it looks pretty good, right?  Well after doing this I had to make the batter for the cake which wasn't so bad, but then the instructions for adding the batter to the lemon sauce didn't make sense to me obviously....
What?! Add the batter a rounded tablespoon at a time?

Nope. This doesn't feel right.
 Definitely doesn't feel right...
Now gently spread the batter? How?
I didn't spread so well....this is the end result.

Even though it looks weird and was mentally challenging for me I did it and it actually didn't taste too bad....my dad claims he liked it so I guess that's all that matters?
